In our dance classes we believe in teaching our students self-confidence and discipline through the fine art of dance while having fun. We offer a wide variety of class options to choose from including Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Clogging (West Virginia Flat Foot), Celtic (Irish Clogging), Smooth and Latin Ballroom, Swing and Tumbling for students 2 1/2 through adult. 

  To Compete or Not to Compete

There are many approaches to teaching dance. Our studio offers both competitive and non-competitive classes, all focused on developing technique, artistry, and a love of movement in a fun, supportive environment. We offer classes for all ages and skill levels, from beginner to advanced. For the 10–15% of students who want to pursue additional performance opportunities, we invite them to audition for our Dancimation performing company. At our studio, competition is one more tool to help students grow. Through competitions, dancers receive feedback on their technique, artistry, and performance from qualified judges and instructors. They can then bring that feedback back to class and continue improving. Hearing critiques from instructors outside their regular classes also provides valuable objectivity. Just as importantly, students learn how to accept constructive criticism and apply it without losing confidence. Our philosophy is progress, not perfection. Each competition gives dancers a chance to improve as performers and technicians, and every time they step onto a stage, they learn something about themselves. Competitions also build confidence and help prepare students for future experiences such as auditions, interviews, and other high-pressure situations. Unfortunately, some television shows have created a negative image of competitive dance studios. That is not who we are. We were once approached to host a workshop for one such show, and I declined because we do not share a philosophy of degrading students. Instead, we believe competition can strengthen self-confidence, discipline, teamwork, and the ability to perform under pressure—many of the same values people admire in school team sports. That is why we offer competition opportunities to students who are interested. Competition is only a small part of what our Dancimation performing company does. In addition to participating in two to three competitions each year, our dancers have performed at the Danish Festival on stage and in the parade, at local long-term care facilities, at pageants, and at many other community venues. They have also performed at Universal Studios, Disney World, on two cruise lines, and at resorts in Mexico.
